Introduction
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (in Virginia, Maryland, and DC) and mental health therapist, I help adult individuals and couples overcome the impacts of anxiety, depression, ADHD, addiction, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, trauma, and relationship issues.
With a compassionate and straightforward approach, I work to create a supportive space where clients can process their emotions and work toward healing. I offer a range of therapy services that are tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. From individual counseling to couples therapy, I work with clients to grow emotionally and develop the skills needed to live more integrated and fulfilling lives.
My Approach
My approach for all clients is based on a deep understanding of neurobiology and how it impacts our behavior, decisions, and feelings. I believe that we heal fastest in relationship and that the therapeutic relationship is the most important element of successful treatment. Although I am trained in a variety of techniques, I tailor treatment specifically to the needs of each client, employing a balance of humor, compassion, guidance, intuition, confrontation, analysis, education, and empathy. Mostly, I work to create an emotionally safe place to explore all feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, especially the ones we prefer to keep hidden.

I have over two years of intensive training as a couples counselor at the Couples Institute under the direction of Doctors Ellyn Bader and Peter Pearson. I operate primarily from teachings of the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy, which emphasizes neurobiological, differentiation, and attachment processes. Couples who work with me learn about their brains, their early adaptive behavior decisions, and the ineffective patterns in their relationship that keep them stuck. I use a combination of interpersonal and intra-psychic interventions to help couples to see themselves and their partners more clearly and to begin to make incremental adjustments in their own behaviors to create lasting change in their relationship systems. As a former budget coach, I am particularly comfortable with financial issues and how they can impact relationships. I also work well with couples who have experienced addiction, deceit, sexual issues, infidelity, parenting problems, and other communication issues.

About Me
I received my education at the University of Virginia, Johns Hopkins University, and Virginia Commonwealth University. Being a therapist is a second career and dream job for me. Previously, I was a product manager for Internet and telecommunications services. After that, I took time to raise my kids while working part-time for my brother and father’s company as a business consultant. I’ve been married for 25 years, have two children in college, and have a mild case of ADHD, for which I have developed many systems and behavioral supports. I also have a YouTube channel where I share tips, tricks, theories, and perspectives on a variety of topics. Mostly I love people, their stories, and the process of healing in relationship.
